Mellissa grew up on cattle properties in central and north Queensland as well as the Northern Territory. Mellissa’s passion for furthering the northern beef industry led her to complete a Bachelor of Applied Science (Production Animal Science) at The University of Queensland’s Gatton Campus. Upon completing her degree in 2010 Mellissa returned home to the family property at Torrens Creek and commenced contract mustering and data collection for the Cash Cow Project.

Mellissa started working for DAF in 2011, initially working as a Biosecurity Inspector based in Townsville and later Hughenden, before moving to Charters Towers in 2013 to join the FutureBeef Extension Team.

Mellissa works in the areas of beef cattle nutrition, herd and business analysis, breeder herd and grazing land management. Working on the Burdekin Grazing BMP and Extension Support Project, Mellissa has been actively involved in the delivery of the Grazing BMP Program across the Burdekin basin and has facilitated producer group activities focused on improving herd and business record keeping. Mellissa is also part of the editorial team for the FutureBeef Newsletter, Northern Muster.
