SUMMARY:Wellcamp weed research field trial walk
DESCRIPTION:With a favourable seasonal outlook\, the Department of Primary Industries (DPI) Wellcamp research facility is currently a hive of field trial activity. \nInterested growers and agronomists are invited to participate in an informal morning of field trial walks to showcase some of the current weed research taking place. Plus\, have the opportunity to discuss project outcomes with the lead researchers. \nPresenters\nMichael Widderick (DPI): Biocontrol of fleabane – An update on plans to evaluate a biocontrol agent for fleabane. Local trials at Wellcamp are being established as part of a national CSIRO project. \nJeff Werth (DPI): Understanding the role of residual herbicides in cotton – These Cotton Research Development Corporation (CRDC) supported trials are evaluating cotton planted into soils following residual herbicide use in the preceding fallow\, along with pre-emergent herbicides applied at planting. \nMark Congreve\, Independent Consultants Australia Network (ICAN): Residual herbicides and plantbacks – Can we develop decision support tools to assist plantback decision using your actual soil and environmental conditions? The Wellcamp trial site is part of a Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) funded national investment. \nBhagirath Chauhan\, University of Queensland (UQ): Integrated management of button grass – Evaluation of integrated management strategies including crop choice\, crop competition and pre- and post-emergent herbicide options in both mung beans and sorghum\, as part of a GRDC funded project. \nMichael Widderick (DPI): Herbicide resistance surveillance – An update on the next round of the GRDC random herbicide resistance testing program. \nCost\nFree for growers and agronomists.
