DESCRIPTION:Mexican rancher\, Alejandro Carrillo\, is returning to Australia and is teaming up with David McLean of Resource Consulting Services (RCS)\, to deliver a unique\, 2-day grazing workshop that is intentionally designed with rangeland pastoralists in mind. \nYour presenters\nAlejandro hails from Las Damas Ranch\, in the heart of the Chihuahuan Desert\, Mexico\, where he has evolved his grazing management to increase pasture diversity\, rain infiltration and the length of the growing season\, while repairing the water cycle and improving profitability. He is currently experiencing one of the driest times in living memory in his region and is acutely aware of the importance of coming together\, sharing game-changing insights\, and supporting each other. \nDavid has worked closely with producers across Australia for decades\, particularly in the Northern livestock industry. He has a keen understand the challenges graziers face in various contexts and uses his extensive knowledge and experience to support\, challenge\, and champion them as they pursue their visions. \nThe program\nDay one\, the 21st May\, will be held at the Rodney Seccombe Centre\, QANTAS Founders Museum in Longreach. This will be a day of theory\, discussion and strategy. \nDay two\, the 22nd May\, will be held at Latrobe Station 45 mins from Longreach. The Brown family invite producers and community members to see their results from trialling Alejandro’s methods discussed on his first visit. Hear real-world examples from graziers already making it work in their businesses. \nAbout the host\nRichard and Sarah Cox from Cracow Station have a 10\,374 hectare property dedicated to producing high quality grass-fed beef. Since moving to Cracow in late 2003\, Richard and Sarah have endeavoured to implement management principles that foster the long-term health of their business\, their animals and the landscape. This requires an on-going focus on rotational grazing\, pasture management and improvement\, strategic fencing to reduce the size of paddocks\, soil rehydration through the construction of banks and ponds\, increasing the number and spread of stock water points\, targeted nutritional supplementation of cattle\, low stress stock handling and livestock/weaner education. With a diverse range of soil\, vegetation and pasture types across the property\, the preservation and enhancement of biodiversity is a core focus of the Cracow Station business. Richard and Sarah firmly believe that biodiversity plays an integral role in the health and functionality of grazing systems. \nMeet your speakers\nRhonda Toms-Morgan\nRhonda\, founder of ConnectAg\, is based in Queensland’s Maranoa region and supports grazing and broadacre producers across the state. She provides guidance on production\, land management\, environmental practices\, carbon and sustainability. She played a key role in creating the Carbon EDGE workshop and now leads its delivery for Meat & Livestock Australia. Rhonda is passionate about helping producers understand their carbon footprint find practical carbon solutions\, and balance business goals with environmental responsibility. She’s also committed to closing knowledge gaps in the industry\, helping producers confidently engage with supply chains\, consumers\, and policymakers on carbon and the future of agriculture. \nPhil Tickle\nPhil is a co-founder and managing director of Cibo Labs. He has a background in agriculture\, growing up on mixed farms in southern Australia. Phil has over 30 years experience in the application of geospatial and remote sensing solutions focused on natural resource management\, agriculture and climate change. He has worked in both private and government sectors undertaking applied research\, providing science-policy advice\, and leading national research and operational programs. Phil is passionate about delivering pragmatic solutions that support profitable farm businesses\, the broader agricultural sector and more sustainable landscapes. In his spare time Phil enjoys getting out in the bush with the family\, riding\, camping\, hiking and fishing. \nCarly and Grant Burnham\nCarly and Grant Burnham are leading beef producers based west of Monto in Queensland’s scenic North Burnett region. Together with their 4 children\, they run ‘Bonnie Doone’ – a 20\,000 acre organically certified beef grazing property. \nWith 6 generations of family ties to the land and agriculture in Queensland\, Carly and Grant are driven to keep innovating for a strong and sustainable future in farming.
