SUMMARY:Carbon EDGE — Roma
DESCRIPTION:Attending this workshop will help you learn:\n\nkey terminology and concepts relating to greenhouse gases (GHG) within the red meat industry\nin-depth information on the practices to reduce and sequester GHG within a livestock grazing business\nweighing up opportunities and risks associated with generating carbon credits and how they can be used to benefit livestock businesses\nunderstanding carbon neutrality and how it aligns to your business goals\ndeveloping a carbon action plan that incorporates practical\, achievable strategies to meet your objectives.\n\nYou will learn through group-based activities and tools\, applying new information to your own context with snapshot the support of an expert deliverer. Every workshop will include case studies and examples for participants to learn from. \nWho is the Carbon EDGE program for?\nThe program is for red meat producers who are looking to build on their understanding of carbon. The program will help participants move into a planning and action phase\, identifying practices and technologies that could be incorporated into their business to benefit their bottom line and the environment. It is also suitable for advisors and other service providers looking to enhance their understanding of the current operating environment. \nPre-workshop preparation\nThe design of the Carbon EDGE workshops recognises that everyone will be at a different starting point when it comes to carbon. However\, it is highly recommended that participants complete pre-work before attending to get the best out of the program. This includes the eLearning modules available on MLA’s Toolbox and a carbon account. Your workshop deliverer will be in touch to guide you through this process. \nHear from our presenters on what attendees will take home from the workshop:\n \nClick here to find out more \nIf you have any questions\, contact Hilary Connors on 0427 467 608. \nThis event has been heavily subsidised by Westpac.

SUMMARY:MLA Sustainability series: Modelling soil carbon in grazing lands with Agrimix
DESCRIPTION:Flux towers\, operated by Agrimix\, measure carbon exchange from soil to the atmosphere. The results show a novel technology that could be used to reduce cost of soil carbon measurement for management purposes or carbon credit schemes. \nThis project was born when Agrimix director\, Nick Kempe\, started asking “how much carbon can Progardes®desmanthus\, a deep tap rooted\, nitrogen-fixing legume\, actually sequester?”. We then realised there was no reliable\, low-cost way to find out the answer! \nAgrimix teamed up with renowned soil scientists Professor Peter Grace and Professor David Rowlings and commissioned a major scientific research study into eddy covariance flux tower technology in collaboration with QUT\, with support from leading Australian beef producers. \nThis project is part of Meat & Livestock Australia’s Carbon Storage Partnership and the Australian Government’s National Soil Carbon Innovation Challenge. \nSpeakers: \nZac Geldof – Principal Agronomist\, Agrimix\nChloe Kempe\, Research Program Manager\, Agrimix \nDate and time: 17 September at 6:30pm AEST (7:30pm AEDT)
