SUMMARY:Carbon EDGE — Charters Towers
DESCRIPTION:ConnectAg\, Meat & Livestock Australia and NQ Dry Tropics are excited to be bringing Carbon EDGE to Charters Towers\, 28-29 November 2024.\nThe Carbon EDGE workshop is helping provide red meat producers with an independent perspective for their own operations on carbon accounting\, their emissions intensity as well as emissions reduction technologies\, insetting\, offsetting and more. \nConnectAg will support you over the course to make sense of this dynamic topic and get clarity on realistic options for your operation. The workshop will also help put into focus considerations for sustainability reporting for industry and practical steps to determine how to navigate emerging risks and opportunities. \nAttending this workshop will help you learn:\n\nkey terminology and concepts relating to greenhouse gases (GHG) within the red meat industry\nin-depth information on the practices to reduce and sequester GHG within a livestock grazing business\nweighing up opportunities and risks associated with generating carbon credits and how they can be used to benefit livestock businesses\nunderstanding carbon neutrality and how it aligns to your business goals\ndeveloping a carbon action plan that incorporates practical\, achievable strategies to meet your objectives.\n\nWho should attend Carbon EDGE?\nThe program is for red meat producers who are looking to build on their understanding of carbon. The program aims to take participants from understanding to action planning. It is also suitable for advisors and other service providers. \nPre-workshop preparation\nThe design of the Carbon EDGE workshops recognises that everyone will be at a different starting point when it comes to carbon. However\, it is highly recommended that participants complete pre-work before attending to get the most out of the program. This includes the eLearning modules available on MLA’s Toolbox and a carbon account. Your workshop deliverers will be in touch to guide you through this process. \nCost\nEarly bird price for producers\, supported by NQ Dry Tropics\, and TNQ Drought Hub: $250+ GST \nFull price: $1750 + GST \nYour presenters\nRhonda Toms Morgan & John McLaughlin\, ConnectAg. \nClick here to register for Carbon EDGE\n

SUMMARY:Legume establishment part 2: Why pasture legumes benefit beef businesses and how to get them into pastures
DESCRIPTION:Join the Department of Primary Industries (DPI) sown pastures team for the second of a 2-part series on legume establishment across Southern\, Central\, and Northern Queensland. This webinar focusses on establishing legumes into existing grass pastures in the monsoonal zone of northern Queensland. \nBeef grazing on native pastures is the key land use in the seasonally dry zone of north Queensland but animal productivity is limited by poor feed supply during the extended dry season. The adoption of legumes into grass pastures has historically been shown to increase returns through improving the diet over the year\, but adoption has remained low. \nRecent research by the Queensland Government and Meat & Livestock Australia has focussed on the development of legume-grass ‘production paddocks’ on a range of land types to target the nutrition of key livestock classes (weaners\, steers). These systems are highly productive and profitable\, but successful adoption by graziers depends on reliable and affordable establishment. \nIn this BeefConnect webinar\, join Dr Kendrick Cox (DPI Principal Pasture Scientist)\, as he discusses the case for investing in legume pastures and describes a range of methods and considerations to reliably establish pasture legumes into native and sown grass pastures under a range of situations in the northern tropics of Queensland.
