SUMMARY:MLA Sustainability series: Modelling soil carbon in grazing lands with Agrimix
DESCRIPTION:Flux towers\, operated by Agrimix\, measure carbon exchange from soil to the atmosphere. The results show a novel technology that could be used to reduce cost of soil carbon measurement for management purposes or carbon credit schemes. \nThis project was born when Agrimix director\, Nick Kempe\, started asking “how much carbon can Progardes®desmanthus\, a deep tap rooted\, nitrogen-fixing legume\, actually sequester?”. We then realised there was no reliable\, low-cost way to find out the answer! \nAgrimix teamed up with renowned soil scientists Professor Peter Grace and Professor David Rowlings and commissioned a major scientific research study into eddy covariance flux tower technology in collaboration with QUT\, with support from leading Australian beef producers. \nThis project is part of Meat & Livestock Australia’s Carbon Storage Partnership and the Australian Government’s National Soil Carbon Innovation Challenge. \nSpeakers: \nZac Geldof – Principal Agronomist\, Agrimix\nChloe Kempe\, Research Program Manager\, Agrimix \nDate and time: 17 September at 6:30pm AEST (7:30pm AEDT)
