The Graeme Acton Beef Connections program is about developing the skills of young beef producers by providing training and personal development opportunities and a mentor to help them achieve their goals and participate in the Beef Australia 2015.

The inaugural Beef Connections program is a new initiative of Beef Australia and is proudly supported by Westpac Agribusiness.

It has been named in honour of the late Graeme Acton, who was a leading Queensland beef industry figure renowned for supporting young people in entering the sector, and sharing with them his extensive knowledge.

The program provides 25-35 year olds with the opportunity to:

  • Participate in the Building Your Future Conference – a three-day personal development workshop to be held in February 2015 where participants will develop and a Building Your Future project. (Participants in the program will have their travel and accommodation costs for attending the Building Your Future Conference met by Beef Australia.)
  • Have a mentoring partnership that will support them through until February 2016 in achieving their Building Your Future project goals. Mentors will be selected on the basis of their leadership skills in the beef industry or other agricultural sectors. Their role will be to support participants to achieve their personal development aspirations.
  • Connect with industry leaders – participants will have access to monthly webinars and one-on-one follow-up sessions to provide assistance with personal development projects and an opportunity to share learning experiences and success stories.
  • Be involved in a Beef Connections Network which will bring together young beef producers and industry leaders both at Beef Australia 2015 and through until Beef Australia 2018.

The Beef Connections program is open to young people aged 25-35 and working in any aspect of the beef industry including production, processing, marketing, and agribusiness.

Participants will be selected through an application and interview process, with successful applicants to be announced at the Young Beef Producers Forum in Roma, Qld, on the 20-21 November 2014.
