After growing up on the land in Augathella, ~90km north of Charleville, producing cattle, sheep, and pigs for our family butchering business I developed a passion for animal production and the science behind it. For the past four years I have been developing my knowledge of the industry at the University of Queensland in Gatton. Studying a dual degree in Agribusiness and Applied Science (Animal Production) with a particular interest in drought sustainability and biosecurity.
For the first 9 months of my career I have been working with the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy as a Natural Resource Management Officer here in Charleville. As a Vegetation Management Officer my primary role was to interpret the State’s Vegetation Management Framework and various pieces of legislation to landholders, the general public, other Government Departments. I also spent time out in remote areas of the district assessing Property Maps of Assessable Vegetation (PMAVs).
Although I enjoyed my time as an NRMO I am very keen to get back into the animal science scene and further develop my knowledge on sustainable drought management practices. I’m looking forward to working with the GrazingFutures team to help improve drought preparedness and resilience in Queensland, particularly within the remote areas of the State.
