G’day my name is Emily and I’m the new Beef Extension Officer in Mareeba, filling in for Emma Black while she is on maternity leave. I come from a little town called Mount Ossa, (between Mackay and Proserpine), where my family and I run a sugar cane and cattle property. I have a bachelor of equine science from the University of Queensland Gatton and graduated in December 2018. During University I was employed as a practical lecturer, where I took and taught the practical classes to the first year students in the areas of Equine, Agriculture and Veterinary science. I have spent the last few months working on the family property, contract mustering around Queensland and I also spent a few weeks in Richmond volunteering for the flood affected producers after the 2019 flood disaster in the north-west. I am a keen equestrian, and compete in the field of dressage.

I am very passionate about agriculture and I’m looking forward to learning more about the beef industry and sharing my knowledge with Australian producers. My interests are in the field of breeding and genetics and the nutritional elements that come with breeding.
