After growing up on a high country sheep, beef and deer property in the South Island, New Zealand, Jane decided to try Australia for a six month holiday… that was over 10 years ago now. She worked on cattle properties throughout northern Australia before joining the Department of Primary Industry and Resources, first at Victoria River Research Station, and now as a Pastoral Production Officer in Tennant Creek. Jane’s role involves livestock and rangeland data collection for research projects, editing the Barkly Beef newsletter and facilitating training programs for everyone from new entrant stock staff through to station managers. Jane enjoys seeing course participants taking the skills and practices learned in the classroom and implementing them out in the paddock, which then helps them to work their way up the management ladder while improving the business, land and livestock in the process.
