The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF) is hosting a series of Optimising profit and resilience of beef business workshops for central Queensland beef producers in April.
The workshops are free and will take place in Emerald on 17 April at the Emerald Agricultural College, Moura on 18 April at the Memorial Hall and Gracemere on 19 April at the CQLX Saleyards.
Industry expert and agricultural economist, Fred Chudleigh, will compare the profitability of a range of management strategies and technologies that may contribute to building more profitable and resilient beef businesses. Tools that can be used to assess the profitability and risk of drought response and recovery strategies will also be demonstrated.
Pasture agronomist, Stuart Buck, and ruminant nutritionist, Dr Maree Bowen will present information on how to successfully and profitably incorporate perennial legumes into pastures and beef production systems.
These workshops have been funded by the Queensland Government’s Drought and Climate Adaptation Program (DCAP) and are being run in conjunction with the Grazing Best Management Practices program.
Maree Bowen, DAF Research Scientist said the workshops will present key results and conclusions from a project which has been designed to identify management strategies and practices that will optimise long-term profitability of beef enterprises and help build resilience to drought and other risks. For producers wanting to examine scenarios specific to their own businesses, follow-up workshops and private sessions with DAF economists and beef extension officers can be arranged.
