Have you ever seen smoke in the sky and wondered where the fire was?

Did you know there is a website that will show you?

The Northern Australia Fire Information (NAFI) website uses satellite technology to map the location of current and historical fires. There is also an alert option to save you the time and effort of consistently checking the website.

By creating a custom alert area, NAFI will automatically notify you when a new fire ‘hotspot’ is identified within a specific area. This is a valuable tool for primary producers who want early warning of fire activity.

Setting up an alert:

  1. is free,
  2. only takes a few minutes,
  3. saves you valuable time checking the website when there are no hotspots in your area,
  4. alerts you as soon as a hotspot is created within your alert area, so you can respond in a timely manner.

How to set up a NAFI hotspot email alert

  1. Go to https://firenorth.org.au/nafi3/
  2. Select your region or zoom to your property area.
  3. Make sure the map view covers the area you want alerts for.
  4. In the left menu, go to Areas then My Areas and Click the green + button.
  5. Name the area, then click Add area.
  6. In the left menu, go to Hotspot Alert, then Set up alert.
  7. Enter your details and create an account.
  8. Enter your email address and create or enter your NAFI password.
  9. Log on, tick the area you want alerts for, then click Update.

NAFI will email you when the satellite detects a hotspot inside your selected area. Hotspot locations are approximate and should be checked on ground.
