Project summary
Allan, Terry and Robert Martin live and work together on Mt Denison Station, 300km north-west of Alice Springs. Since 2022, they have taken on the opportunity to further their business and themselves, becoming involved in the ‘Paddock Challenge’ project alongside the Northern Territory Government.
Through analysing pasture productivity, cattle performance and economic outcomes, they have shifted towards a more data-informed approach, focusing on improving breeder performance, weaning rates and production efficiency while aiming to produce the same or more beef from fewer animals. The project has also helped the Martins better understand the long-term carrying capacity of their country, providing a practical benchmark to guide sustainable herd management and future decision-making.
