Twilight Forums extend research to more than 1 million hectares of northern WA

Twilight forum attendees watch a demonstration of how to conduct a post-mortem

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development Northern Beef Development team have recently been on the road conducting research and extension updates – otherwise known as Twilight Forums.

The team travelled a combined 1924km and multiple flights to host the events on stations in the Kimberley and Pilbara regions. Twelve stations and 29 employees attended, encompassing more than 1 million hectares in northern WA.

The presentations were a summary of the NBD team’s work including the satellite imagery Pastoral Remote Sensing software and FutureBeef communications by Charlotte Thomson. Sarah Gwynne presented on the weaner pain relief trial at the three different stations over the north-west of Western Australia. Dr Isabel MacPhillamy and Dr Stefano Spissu presented on livestock biosecurity emergency animal diseases with a post-mortem conducted at the Kimberley forum. Broome-based Annie Bone presented the updates on the phosphorous supplementation ‘Easy P.’

The updates were well received with more workshops and training requested for 2023. If you would like to host one on your station or want to learn more about the team in WA, please contact the Northern Beef Development team on annie.bone@dpird.wa.gov.au.
