Keeping your herd working for you – where to get the low down?
— written by Jo Gangemi – Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, Spyglass
Breeding herds in the Burdekin catchment are due for a shake up following a string of training opportunities for graziers in recent months with more to come.
Maximising calf output and minimising the costs to do so, have been the theme across a range of events, including:
- Reproductive performance and pregnancy testing workshops at Bowen and Greenvale – delivered by NQ Dry Tropics featuring well know veterinarian, Ian Braithwaite
- Bull Selection workshops at Mt Coolon and Dotswood – delivered by the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries Beef Extension team with guest presenter, John Bertram
- Breeding EDGE at Belyando – delivered by Felicity Hamlyn-Hill (Beef Enterprise Advisory Services Pty Ltd), Tim Emery (Department of Agriculture and Fisheries) and Dr Geoffrey Fordyce ACV & BULLCHECK accredited vet
If you missed these great opportunities then you still have time to register for:
- Breeding EDGE at Hughenden – 4 to 6 October
- BredWell FedWell at Wambiana, Charters Towers – 5 October (registrations have been extended)
