Planning on establishing a new pasture this year?Maximise your chances of success before investing in seed, fertiliser and machinery.
Join a small online group of local producers and work through the process together, with support from experienced DPI pasture specialists every step of the way. Open to producers in the Dingo, Middlemount, Valkyrie and Clarke Creek areas, as well as neighbouring areas.
H5 bird flu: negligible risk to beef cattle
Following the ongoing detection of H5 bird flu (avian influenza) in wild birds across Australia, the Federal Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry advises the risk to the beef cattle industry remains negligible.
While the current risk remains low, producers are encouraged to stay vigilant and maintain good biosecurity practices.
Protecting the reef through gully remediation
Watch some of the restoration work taking place at DPI’s Spyglass Beef Research Facility. A project is trialling practical methods to stabilise eroded gullies, improve soil condition and re-establish vegetation.

Feedback needed for Potential Carrying Capacity review in WA
Own or manage a pastoral lease in WA? DPIRD needs your feedback on Rangeland Vegetation Mapping!
The department is undertaking a 3-year project to update mapping of rangeland pastures throughout the pastoral leases of WA.
DPIRD will consult with industry and pastoralists to reassess the pastoral potential of each Rangeland Vegetation Group (RVG) and hence the Potential Carrying Capacity of each pastoral station.

Long term fly and tick controls
The North Australia Beef Research Council (NABRC) has identified the need for new, longer lasting and more effective control methods for buffalo fly, ticks and other pests that cause lesions and illness in cattle. While new research is underway to improve fly and tick control, here’s an existing FutureBeef resource on chemical-free fly control.
