Generic pasture management advice applies only in broad strokes. To make effective decisions, you need to understand:
- Your dominant soil type and its water-holding and fertility characteristics
- Your rainfall zone, seasonal distribution, and year-to-year variability
- The native pasture community — what species are present, what their condition state means
- The specific weeds and pests that are prevalent in your district
