A new cohort of Aboriginal Pastoral Academy participants are ready to enter the pastoral workforce, thanks to a successful collaboration between Aboriginal organisations, the northern pastoral sector and the WA Government. Eight young participants have graduated from the Academy’s Entry Pre-employment Program and will commence work as station hands in the northern pastoral industry.

Practical ways to make better on-farm decisions
More data isn’t necessarily better. Nuffield Scholar Kate Watts is exploring which data really matters and how producers can use it to make better management decisions. Her scholarship will take her to countries including Brazil and Scotland to learn from their experience introducing livestock traceability systems for the first time, and consider how technology can better work for producers, rather than the other way around.

Upcoming bushfire season for NT
The Spring 2026 Seasonal Bushfire Outlook points to a longer fire season and above-average fire danger across parts of the Northern Territory, including the Top End, Arnhem and Savanna regions. A later start to the wet season could extend the Top End fire season into November, while high fuel loads are contributing to increased fire potential across Central Australia.
