South West NRM is holding a flood fencing field day.

The idea is to give you some background to some of the issues you might not be aware of when fencing watercourses or overland flow and then move into what some of the solutions might be.

The forum is on John Parsons, “Glentuckie”, south of Cunnamulla. John has an engineering background. Recently John designed and constructed an experimental section of flood fencing. The fence has now gone through a few flooding events so you can see what is working.

Darren Jennings, Regional Landcare Facilitator at SWNRM has experience in constructing infrastructure in watercourses and this knowledge is being used to help John tweak his design.

They don’t have all the answers so they are asking you to bring along your ideas as well to share with everyone. If you have a few photos on your phone that would be great as well (or email them to Darren before the event).

The goal of the day is to work towards a flood fencing solution that works in multiple situations and with multiple fence types that can either continue to operate through a flood event or be re-stood in very quick time once waters recede. They wish this to be cost effective in the construction, maintenance and restanding process.

If you wish to fly in let us know and we will pass on the airstrip details.

Lunch is provided.

RSVP by contacting Darren Jennings, Regional Landcare Facilitator, South West NRM at darren.jennings@swnrm.org.au or phone the office on 4656 8500.

If you would like to provide information on the day please give Darren a call on 0428 220 136
