Wet season spelling – a grease and oil change for your grass!

Just like a Toyota or a road train, pastures need some regular repair and maintenance to keep them running at their best. Increasingly, northern beef producers are asking for information and advice on wet season spelling.

This webinar will cover some of the most common questions including:

  • Does wet season spelling work?
  • How often should I spell, and for how long?
  • Will I see results straight away?
  • What are the benefits to my bottom line?
  • Are there any pitfalls to watch out for?

Join our free webinar to learn more.

Who should register for this webinar?

Be sure to register if you’re interested in learning about the fundamentals of wet season spelling and hearing from a producer who successfully does it. Dionne Walsh and Ross Peatling will outline how and why spelling works, practical tips on how to go about it and the traps for young players. They will also talk about the stocking rate and wet season spelling trial happening at Alexandria station (NT). Opportunities for questions will be made available throughout the webinar.

About Dionne Walsh

Dionne has lived and worked in the rangelands for 16 years and has spent the past 11 of those in the Northern Territory. Prior to joining the Department of Primary Industry & Fisheries in 2009, she ran her own NRM consulting business in Alice Springs and Katherine. These days she oversees the DPIFs rangeland research program throughout the NT, which aims to help producers get the very best performance out of their native pastures. When asked what she loves most about her job, she says “working with progressive pastoralists and getting my hands dirty out in the paddock”.

About Ross Peatling

Ross is the manager of NAPCO’s Alexandria Station in the Barkly Tablelands of the NT. After attending Longreach Pastoral College in the late 1960s, Ross began work as a ringer at ‘Strathdarr’ near Longreach for the Hooker Pastoral Co., and worked on ‘Balarang’, a sheep and cattle property near Moree, New South Wales. After that time he “had a meeting with myself about sheep, and decided to try cattle!” In 1972, he began with Stanbroke Pastoral Co. at ‘Stanbroke’ at Duchess where he advanced to head stockman. He then transferred to ‘Fort Constantine’ near Cloncurry, and ‘Havilah’ near Collinsville. In 1980, he became Manager at ‘Wondoola’, in North Queensland, staying until 1987. He and wife Robyn then spent time at ‘Mt Bundy’, ‘Elsey’ and ‘Hodgson Downs’ (Northern Territory) before shifting to a NSW feedlot. In January 1991, they made the journey to Alexandria, and it has been their home ever since.
