Meet the new Industry Recovery Officers
Five Industry Recovery Officers (IROs) have been appointed to help the North West grazing industry recover from the February floods. These IRO’s will assist Dr David Phelps who is the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries’ Flood Recovery Coordinator.
The IRO’s met with David and representatives from the Land Management Unit, extension officers from Richmond and Cloncurry, Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority, the Rural Financial Counselling Service, the Northern Gulf Resource Management Group and the Royal Flying Doctor Services in Cloncurry for an induction workshop.
“Our new IROs are passionate about helping the north-west to recover and personally experienced or knew people affected by the floods,” David said.
“They’ll use their local connections and work with councils, our extension officers, NRM groups, Ag Force and other organisations to help with a coordinated recovery approach. They complement the four part-time industry recovery officers working through Queensland Farmers Federation (QFF) along the coast.
“We will continue to deliver field days, workshops and on-property support to provide information for graziers such as pasture recovery, soil conservation and financial strategies for rebuilding the herd and business.”
The new IRO’s are:
- Susie Brodie (Winton)
- Bob Guteridge (Gulf)
- Emma Knight (McKinlay)
- Lachlan Smith (Cloncurry)
- Anne Thompson (Flinders)
