Managing pests, diseases and weeds on your property safeguards your productivity and profitability and the best person to determine what the biosecurity risks are how they should be practically managed is you. Most people are already managing biosecurity risks and have a plan in their head. Documenting this plan will help to assure buyers that your products are high quality and come from a trusted source.
The workshop will provide practical advice about managing biosecurity risks and how to complete a biosecurity plan. Workshops are being run collaboratively by Livestock Biosecurity Network, Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, Elders and AgForce to ensure the information is the same across the board.
A biosecurity plan is not a mandatory requirement. However, it will be included in the LPA recommitment and is important for market access to the Northern Territory and Western Australia for J-BAS status. Animal Health Australia has a J-BAS FAQ for producers including requirements for Johne’s disease and interstate access. Visit the AHA website.
It is not a requirement to attend a workshop however it is recommended. There are templates available tips and FAQs to keep the process simple if you feel confident to complete the plan without a workshop. Download a copy of the plan template here and use the National Cattle Health Declaration to communicate you health status to buyers.
