The Caravan of Collaboration will cover two key topics that you asked to be covered and will also have a range of agencies on hand to discuss the wide range of other topics you are seeking information on.
Topic 1: Strategies for improving drought resilience
Maintaining land in good condition ensures the rapid recovery of country to a productive state after a drought. Strategies for keeping land in good condition include:
- stocking to carrying capacity over the long term
- varying stock numbers on a seasonal or annual basis to match feed demand with forage supply
- spelling country from grazing, particularly at the beginning of the growing season to allow recovery of stress in pastures
- always maintaining a good stubble of ground cover to keep soil and nutrients in your paddock
This workshop will show you:
- the benefits of good land condition
- how to choose the grazing system that suits you, allows recovering after drought and maintains land in good condition
- how to work out whether the grass and mulga you have is going to last current stock numbers until predicted season break
Topic 2: NRM Spatial Hub and how to use it effectively
The NRM Spatial Hub is using cutting edge developments in geospatial technologies, satellite remote sensing, and rangeland science to provide land managers with systems, tools, data, and skills needed to dramatically improve access to property-scale information and knowledge.
These capabilities will underpin better management decisions and more measurable improvements in landscape condition, ecosystem sustainability and livestock production.
This workshop will show you:
- the benefits to your enterprise
- how to use the tool effectively
- hints and tips on what to look out for
