Grazing BMP is coming to South West Queensland

The day will guide you through a self-assessment process with three of the five modules in the Grazing BMP program delivered to assist you to understand where you are at with:

Animal Production – Tim Emery, DAF

Good livestock management is critical for grazing enterprises, as it determines the type and number of animals produced and sold and consequently the business income. Some of the key topics covered in this session are markets, managing reproduction, nutrition, weaning and weaner management and genetics.

Grazing Land Management – Col Paton, EcoRich Grazing

Grazing land management is about managing the pastures and the number, type and location of grazing animals on your property to optimise pasture growth and composition, and animal production. It considers the property as a whole and seeks to reduce the threats posed by land degradation, erosion, weeds and pest animals, as well as safeguarding and enhancing biodiversity across the property.

People and Business – Tony Koch, QRAA and David Hickey, DAF

Improving the performance of a grazing business requires careful consideration of a range of areas and some of the topics covered during this session include business planning, succession planning, labour management, WH&S and record keeping. While many producers prefer to concentrate on production, focusing on people and planning is also critical.

It is anticipated that the two other modules (animal welfare and soil health) will be covered early next year.

Your self-assessments will inform and guide training programs to assist with improving your enterprise in the coming months.

This series of Grazing BMP workshops is funded by the Queensland Government’s Drought Resilience Project.
