The Queensland Government recognises the importance of agriculture to the state economy and is committed to growing a food and fibre sector that is profitable, resilient and innovative.

The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF) is the state government agency responsible for the sector and we are keen to work closely with stakeholders at the local as well as the state level to understand and address the issues facing the sector.

I would like to invite you, as a key stakeholder in agriculture in the Murweh region, to participate in a forum at Charleville to help identify the opportunities and challenges facing agriculture in the region, and the actions necessary to capitalise on the opportunities and overcome the challenges. This is one of a series of similar forums that we conduct throughout the broader region on an ongoing basis. DAF staff will be reporting back on the 3 priority areas from our last stakeholder meeting with updates on drought, wild dogs, pests and kangaroos.

Forum details: 3.30 pm for 4.00 pm start, 7.00 pm finish, followed by a light meal

Dave McRae from the Centre for Applied Climate Sciences at the University of Southern Queensland will be our guest speaker for the evening. The forum will also include some short presentations on other DAF projects and activities relevant to the region, and will provide an opportunity for you to meet and interact with senior staff from across the Department.

If you can join us, please RSVP to Jahna Cummings on 07 4688 1605 or jahna.cummings@daf.qld.gov.au by Friday 21 August, 2015
and let us know if you will be able to stay for the meal as well as the forum.

I hope you can make it on the 27th. If you are unable to attend on that day and would like to provide input in some other way, please contact me on 07 4688 1121 or by email at stephen.potts@daf.qld.gov.au.
