Rangelands NRM has teamed up with Tim Schatz, Principal Pastoral Production Research Officer with the Northern Territory Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade (DITT), to host a webinar investigating the impacts of phosphorus deficiency on livestock production.

Tim will discuss the findings of recent extensive trials into phosphorus deficiency and the impact on business and production.

Rangelands NRM CEO Debra Tarabini said not a lot was known about regional deficiencies in soil, water and vegetation nutritive values in the Southern Rangelands that impact on livestock production, however phosphorous deficiencies in some areas are evident by bone chewing habits and disease such as botulism.

“This a great opportunity to learn more about the effect of phosphorous deficiencies on livestock nutrition, based on research and the outcomes of recent trials in the NT which show significant impacts.

“We’re encouraging pastoralists in the Southern Rangelands to attend this webinar to gain insight into how these considerations may affect your livestock nutrition, forage budgeting and current or potential supplementation, as we are working towards collecting regional deficiency data over the next year,” Ms Tarabini said.
