Kimberley Bull selection workshop

The Bull selection workshop is designed to assist producers to develop a breeding program to achieve their desired production targets through use of reproductive and genetic knowledge and technologies.

In this workshop, you will learn:

  • what a Bull Breeding Soundness Evaluation (BBSE) is and why you need one,
  • what Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs) are and why you should use them,
  • which EBVs you shoud target to get the best return for your business
  • and what questions you should ask stud breeders when buying bulls.

The workshop will cover the following topics:

  • current considerations for bull selection,
  • what to consider when setting a breeding objective,
  • selection for fertility and growth traits to increase profitability
  • and selection for carcase traits, temperament and polledness.

The workshop will be presented by well known Beef Management and Production Advisor, John Bertram, who has over 35 years of practical experience in bull selection, fertility, and beef cattle breeding and genetics.

practical demonstration will cover identification of physical characteristics that should be considered when selecting bulls.

This event will only proceed if minimum attendance is reached, so pre-registration is essential.
