What HGP program is going to give you the most bang for your buck under NT conditions?
When Trisha Cowley, beef extension officer with the NT Department of Primary Industry and Fisheries, embarked on a two year Producer Demonstration Site (PDS) with a cattle station located about 300 km south of Katherine in the Northern Territory, the questions asked by local producers included:
- Are hormone growth promotants really cost-effective under NT growth rates, where the dry season often involves live weight loss or maintenance during the first year post weaning?
- If so, what are the most profitable strategies?
- What are the hidden costs?
- When do implant losses occur?
Join a webinar on Thursday 8 November to learn more.
Trisha collaborated with the Dyer family on Hayfield station to set up the HGP Producer Demonstration Site (PDS) to compare three HGP strategies:
- Compudose 400®
- Compudose 200® x 2
- Compudose 200® in the wet season only
- no HGP.
Consistent results over two years on 900 steers demonstrate confidence in the data. The research is in line with other analysis on HGP use in northern Australia which has shown that HGPs reliably increase growth by 10 to 15% in grass-fed cattle.
Who should register for this webinar?
Be sure to register if you’re interested in learning the fundamentals of HGPs or gaining practical insights into HGP use from a real-life case study! Trisha will outline the growth results from the Hayfield PDS and compare the cost benefit of the different strategies. Opportunities for questions will be made available throughout the webinar.
