BeefConnect webinar: Spelling strategies for recovery of pasture condition
Date: | Monday 27 February 2017 | Event category: | Past event |
---|
Reduced condition of pasture and soil is common across northern Australia. By spelling your pasture over the summer growing season, you can improve the condition of your soils and pasture, and improve your returns.
To quantify the response of native pasture to differing spelling regimes, we conducted trials at two sites with grazing land in poor condition in central and north Queensland. We recorded plant life-cycles, yield, and composition, and soil seed banks in detail.
It takes almost 10 years to achieve pasture recovery through spelling management and moderate stocking rates are necessary for these improvements to accrue over time.
Join in this webinar and hear our Senior Pasture Scientist, Paul Jones from DAF Emerald, discuss:
- Previous research and background to the project
- Spelling strategies – the research and the results
- Case studies
- Recommendations
