How do you select your bulls or rams?

At this workshop, we’ll cover:

  • Setting your own breeding objectives
  • Understanding EBVs, ASBVs and index selection
  • Soundness examination and common conformation issues
  • Application of this information to your herd or your flock.

Our guest speakers are:

  • Tim Emery – A beef extension officer in Roma for eight years, Tim has considerable experience and expertise in beef genetics and has delivered numerous breeding and genetics presentations. Currently seconded to Tropical Beef Technology Services, Tim works extensively with commercial and seedstock beef producers in northern Australia.
  • Allan Casey – is a private consultant providing breeding and selection advice to to wool and meat sheep breeders in both commercial and stud operations. Allan has worked in farm management, sheep and beef extension and research, and as a sheep breeding technical specialist with the Department of Primary Industries (DPI) in NSW and as a senior consultant and manager for the DPI sheep consultancy service.

Allan and Tim can provide you with advice about the EBVs or ASBVs for the bulls or rams that you’re considering orĀ using, including how they might suit your breeding objectives and work in with your herd/ flock. The day will finish up with a BBQ dinner (cost $10 pp).
