Weeds are becoming a big problem for the Pilbara, with invasive species pushing out native plants and damaging habitats. Calotrope (Calotropis procera) is one of them. The plant produces a milky sap that can harm people and livestock and spreads quickly once established.
This symposium on Calotrope brings together scientist, land managers, Aboriginal groups, government and industry to:
- Understand how Calotrope is affecting the region
- Review current control efforts
- Identify practical management approaches
- Highlight important environmental and cultural areas that need protecting
- Explore ways stakeholders can works together to stop further spread
