Pilbara Weed Symposium – Karratha

Weeds are becoming a big problem for the Pilbara, with invasive species pushing out native plants and damaging habitats. Calotrope (Calotropis procera) is one of them. The plant produces a milky sap that can harm people and livestock and spreads quickly once established.

This symposium on Calotrope brings together scientist, land managers, Aboriginal groups, government and industry to:

• Understand how Calotrope is affecting the region
• Review current control efforts
• Identify practical management approaches
• Highlight important environmental and cultural areas that need protecting
• Explore ways stakeholders can works together to stop further spread
