From dry spells to downpours — build the systems, skills and confidence to manage climate risk.

Weather and climate play a huge role in day-to-day and long-term decisions on farm. From Forecast to Farm is a free, hands-on workshop designed to help producers better understand climate influences, make sense of forecasts, and use practical tools to plan with confidence for the season ahead.

Delivered as part of the SQNNSW Innovation Hub & Northern Australia Climate Program (NACP), this workshop brings together expert speakers from the field (Climate Mates) and the Bureau of Meterology (BoM).

The focus is on practical, locally relevant information that you can apply directly to your business and property.

Across the day, participants will explore:

  • the major climate influences influencing the region and what they mean locally
  • where to find reliable and useful climate and weather information online
  • how to incorporate seasonal outlooks and weather forecasts into on-property decision-making
  • a practical, interactive planning session for the season ahead (next three months) using the NACP forecast planning calendar
  • a clearer understanding of livestock thermal stress (heat and chill), what drives it, and how to manage risk
  • climate decision-making tools, including green date calculations for your region.

Guest speakers

  • Susanne Wright – NACP/UniSQ
  • Vicki Mayne – NACP/UniSQ
  • Dr David Jones – Bureau of Meterology
