Brief History
Mafeking has been in the Keene family for 18 years. A total of 23,000 acres. David, Lynette and their two daughters Ellen and Breanna. Mafeking was bought with very little water infrastructure, fewer paddocks and very little grass management. It has experienced fires that burnt out 90% of the place and drought with annual rainfall of 98mm in one year. With a lot of hard work but mainly planning and training Mafeking has been developed with the use of time-controlled grazing, more efficient water infrastructure and most importantly learning how to use grazing charts and grass budgeting, Mafeking has changed. It has become a place that comfortably runs SDH/100mm of 8 with a bench mark of 10, biodiversity abounds and cattle are happy and healthy. The desert uplands have often been represented as tough country, so we are opening Mafeking to others to show how it can be done in the desert uplands with the use of sound principles.
